James McNeil Whistler Prints: An Exhibit in London and New York
In early 2016 The Fine Art Society in London, and C.G. Boerner and Harris Schrank in New York exhibited a large number of fine prints by James McNeil Whistler (1834-1903), including a range of examples, some frequently encountered and well known, others quite rare, spanning Whistler’s career.
Whistler was, of course, one of the pre-eminent figures in the history of printmaking. The exhibit will feature etchings covering his major periods and subjects: prints of France and London, etchings and lithographs of women, the Venice etchings, and a group of the very rare Amsterdam etchings. Many prints will be shown in both early and later states, and in unique hand-inked impressions, often printed by the artist himself.
