La Cage

Laboureur-LaCageBig

Jean-Emile Laboureur ((1887-1943), La Cage-

1928, color engraving and aquatint,

Sylvain Laboureur 366, only state. Edition 68. Signed and annotated 64/68 ép. in pencil. Initialed and dated in the plate, lower right.

Image size: 8 1/8 x 5 3/4 inches (206 x 146 mm); sheet size: 14 1/4 x 9 15/16 inches (362 x 252 mm).

A fine impression, on antique cream laid paper, with full margins (2 1/4 to 3 1/2 inches), in excellent condition.

This was done using two plates (black and sanguine).

In the Philadelphia journal Sunday Morning, April 20, 1930, it was noted: “Here is a woman hanging a bird cage from her window, while above two men on a suspended scaffold are painting a house wall. It is this type of half-inferred humor that keeps one guessing in the art of Laboureur.”
