Childe Hassam (1859-1935), Dance in the Garden (Two Figures), 1916, etching, signed with the cypher and inscribed “imp”, also titled by the artist in pencil lower right margin [also initialed and dated August 23, 1916 and inscribed Portsmouth, NH in the plate, lower left]. Reference: Cortissoz and Clayton 103, only state. In very good condition, with the artist’s tack holes for drying in the margins (small loss lower left corner associated with a tack hole; rubbing on verso). 5 1/2 x 4 1/2, the sheet 7 1/16 x 5 inches.

A fine impression of this exceedingly rare print, not previously encountered on the market, printed with some tone in a greyish/black ink on white wove “Dutch Plate” paper.
Cortissoz notes that this outdoor scene of figures dancing was done by Hassam “from life.”
