In pristine condition, on a heavy ivory wove paper wtih deckle edges, the full sheet, 9 3/4 x 12 15/16 inches, the sheet 11 9/16 x 16 1/16 inches, archiival storage (between acid free board, non attached mylar hinging, glassine cover).

A fine fresh impression of this important document of 1930′s life.

Published by Contemporary Print Group, New York, and distributed by Raymond and Raymond, Inc. in a portfolio entitled “The American Scene, Series 2.” The suite included lithographs by John Steuart Curry, Thomas Hart Benton, William Gropper, Russell Limbach, Charles Locke, and Raphael Soyer. An edition of 300 is sometimes given for this suite but the edition was most probably 50; the prints are numbered (not in the artist’s hand) as part of an edition of 50 (this impression is numbered 13/50).

Manhunt was illustrated in the catalogue and shown at the Library of Congress 1999 exhibited Life of the People, Realist Prints and Drawings from the Ben and Beatrice Goldstein Collection, 1912-1948.

Manhunt was recently a featured print in the British Museum show of American prints (called, in line with the title of the portfolio in which Manhunt appeared “The American Scene”). The catalogue discusses the social importance of the imagery in Manhunt during the Depression.

Curry was one of the major Regionalist artists, a small but noted group active in the United States in the 1930′s.
