A very good impression (highly magnified in the above illustration)  of this great rarity. Provenance: Collection of Dr. Karl Herweg, with his stamp verso.  Dr. Herweg was a distinguished collector of old master prints, with special emphasis on the prints of Van Ostade, and the German Little Masters such as Altdorfer. <p>Altdorfer was quite well known and highly esteemed by the time he made this  small woodcut; during the period 1513-1518 Altdorfer, like Durer, carried out  important commissions for Emperor Maximilian I, including woodcut designs for a  Triumphal Arch in 1515, and a Triumphal Procession in 1517-8.</p>
